Having traveled to Beijing on previous occasions I was skeptical of joining a tour organized by the conference I was attending on my latest trip, but Jeff and the team at Lune Tours organized outings that took us off the beaten path, away from the standard tourist destinations, and provided a view of the city that was contemporary, interesting, fun, and memorable. — Matthew Prince, co-founder & CEO, CloudFlare, Inc.
"Sunny" Sun gave us a call in our hotel room Monday morning. This was very reassuring to us and allowed us to work out a number of details in advance. Our trip to the Great Wall today could not have gone better. Great experience all the way around. Looking forward to seeing Sunny again tomorrow. Haven't heard from Xi'an guide but expect we will see him when we get off the train Thursday morning. Thank you for arranging things so well.
I’m home – safe and sound, but a little tired! Overall, the trip was great. It exceeded my expectations. I want to again thank you for your invaluable help in planning and executing my trip to China. You worked hard for me, and I greatly appreciate it! I will certainly recommend your services and travel to China in the future! I am now working on what will be a hard bound, table book about my trip.
Here is another update. We are now in Yangshuo, enjoying the slower pace of life in the countryside at the lovely small inn we booked, Yangshuo Village Inn. Our sense that the hotel could arrange more activities than we could possibly undertake was correct, so we are doing fine....Thank you, Jeff, for your wonderful service. And if anyone considering using [Lune Tours] would like a recommendation from a previous client, we will be happy to let them know how much you reduced our stress and added to our enjoyment. We were especially appreciative of your not recommending services we really didn't need.
My favorite things were the more active things—LOVED climbing the mountain and also the Great Wall. I wish I could have been there for the bicycle tour! Of course I liked the pandas too. Oh, and the overnight train was awesome!! I am glad we didn’t do it more than once, but that one overnight trip was great—watching the countryside go by by train is one of my favorite methods of travel, and I slept like a log. Great experience.
Xi'an was great! Loved the Bell Tower Hotel. We had seen the type of rollaway bed we assumed would be crammed into our room once our daughter arrived. But no! At the front desk, they gave us a key to the room next door to ours, which was a three-bed room. And, we had the pleasure of another fantastic guide, who identified himself only as "Gump" (not his real name). Though less extroverted than Sunny, he was just as easy to talk to and delivered everything we requested; coordinated perfectly with the driver the first day (Terracotta Warriors and amazing dance show); located taxis efficiently the second day (Shaanxi Museum, bicycling on the city wall, visiting the Muslim quarter; using another Internet Cafe); watched out for us when crossing streets and exiting taxis (his quick check of the back seat spared me the agony of replacing our Chinese cell phone!); so at the end, I was just as regretful to leave him as Sunny.
Thanks so much for all of your help with the trip! Just in case it’s useful : my mom and aunt were so incredibly happy with Lulu – said she is “simply wonderful”, and “one of the best guides” they had in China.

Kudos to Jeff and Lune Tours for putting this together. In my view it was a stellar success. Nevertheless, I was left with only one regret, and that was that I really should have insisted my partner Alex come with me—I know I would have had an even better time if he could have seen all these great things and met all the great new friends that I had the privilege to find.
I’m amazed that everything went so smoothly, as I know it was very complicated to coordinate everything especially in a country like China where traveling is inevitably going to include some discomfort and confusion. Our Chinese tour guides were all excellent, and the accommodations were terrific overall (minor complaints here and there but I was pleasantly surprised on the whole). The schedule was perfect—having a couple of days free was a great idea, and the order in which we visited the different cities was totally right. Couldn’t have been better planned.

We had a great trip! The travel was so much easier with a car, driver, and guide leading us around. We felt very comfortable in China even when we were “on our own” for the few periods of free time. The highlight of the trip for me was the visit to the panda preserve in Chengdu and having the opportunity to hold a panda.

The trip to China was great. Let’s see if i can come up with a blurb-worthy explanation: I don’t normally employ the services of a travel agent, but doing business with Lune made the trip to China easy without it feeling like my hand was being held. Having no experience with the language and a minimal amount of time to check out a few sights, I was able to be on my way on a 5-day tour of China on an overnight train within a few hours of flying into Beijing, no hassles, no snags. The accommodations were exactly what I was looking for, so instead of spending hours dealing with ticket booths and booking offices, I was able to enjoy what really mattered: getting the most out of an amazing journey to an amazing country. How’s that? None of it’s BS either. I especially loved the hostel in Pingyao; really charming.
We returned to the US on Saturday. The trip was very good, and I give you great credit for organizing it so well. Pick-ups were all on time, the guide Penny in Hangzhou was very capable and pleasant, and Prodigy in Moganshan was rustic and great fun. Pleased and impressed that all car travel was arranged and coordinated so well. The price for the package seemed a bit high but I do appreciate that you handled all details, which I was certainly in no position to do, so I consider that we also paid for your expertise and knowledge of the local terrain. Overall it was a great four days for my son and me and I'm grateful for all your efforts. Hope to do business again sometime soon.
Lune Tours set up a great 4 day trip for us. Jeff had everything planned out including the train tickets, hotels, and transportation between the two cities. [Pingyao and XiAn] The Chinese phrases and food “cheat sheet” he gave us also came in really handy. It was exactly the kind of trip we wanted.
The second day with our Beijing guide was just as enjoyable as the first. Saw the Beijing Zoo and Lama Temple, both very interesting. In the afternoon Sunny helped us find and use an Internet cafe, which would have been really difficult without his help (there never seems to be a sign outside, and you have to go to the second floor). On the train, we enjoyed the luxury of two lower berths and the challenge of conversing with two Chinese businessmen from Xi'an who had next to no English. One of the men put me on the phone with his English-speaking daughter, who said that if there was anything he could do for us while we were in Xi'an, we should let her know so she could tell him. What a wonderful experience!

Our itinerary was perfect- we saw an amazing variety of Chinese life, culture, food, entertainment, art, and world view. We can’t say enough about how organized the tour was, yet flexible to change if we wanted it to be. We also can’t say enough about the Chinese people we met. Everyone was very friendly and the Chinese seem to love Americans. Thanks again for helping us to put our trip together in such a wonderful way.

You were a tremendous help securing the train tickets and putting us in touch with a [Lhasa] travel agent. Given the popularity of the Beijing-Lhasa train you were able to secure tickets for us on fairly short notice and got us the cabin we wanted. While some of the other travelers we met complained about travel agents not showing up to give travelers documents, we didn’t have to worry about any of that. The permit hassle of traveling in Tibet is testing and having a travel agent knowledgeable of the local bureaucracy is invaluable. Additionally, my brother contracted high altitude pulmonary edema and we needed our travel agent in Lhasa to quickly change tickets and secure my brother transport to the airport. Your agent in Lhasa was able to change tickets for a nominal change fee and had my brother on the plane the next day. I have been recommending you to my friends who have even casually mentioned coming to Tibet and China.

We always felt very “welcome” in the country no matter where we were. The hotels were outstanding and the breakfasts were the perfect way start to the day. The food highlights were dumplings in Xi’an (we enjoyed the busy restaurant), and the excellent Beijing duck on our last night.

The highlight of our Shanghai stay was Dvir Bar-Gal's lecture/tour of the Jewish ghetto in Hongkew. We see why you were so impressed with it -- he packs in a prodigious amount of information and interpretation, with a good mix of riding, sitting, video-watching, and walking through the synagogue and even one of the residences. Before the tour began, [my husband] mentioned that his mother's uncle had survived the war in Shanghai. Later, Dvir passed around a small book containing the names and addresses of the residents and suggested he try to locate his uncle's name, which he easily did. There were 17 of us on the tour, but Dvir seemed to remember and work in every fact that individuals in the group shared with him.

We loved all 3 cities we visited [Chengdu, Xi’An, BeiJing] and think you should repeat a similar tour itinerary for other tour groups. Our favorite hotel was the MinShan hotel in Chengdu because of the central location, the Eastern/Western continental breakfast, and the different amenities available there. The hotels in the other cities were okay – actually for the price we paid for them, they were quite comfortable and pleasant.

Our stay at the Banyan Tree Hotel in Lijiang set our trip over the top. If there is something called paradise, this would be it. To wake up each morning in this brand new five star spa resort and look out over our own private garden up onto the Jade Dragon Snow Mountains was a total sensory treat.

I’m amazed that everything went so smoothly, as I know it was very complicated to coordinate everything especially in a country like China where traveling is inevitably going to include some discomfort and confusion. Our Chinese tour guides were all excellent, and the accommodations were terrific overall (minor complaints here and there but I was pleasantly surprised on the whole). The schedule was perfect—having a couple of days free was a great idea, and the order in which we visited the different cities was totally right. Couldn’t have been better planned. The shows we saw in the evenings added a great cultural touch; I loved the kung fu show!

The trip to China was great. Let’s see if i can come up with a blurb-worthy explanation: I don’t normally employ the services of a travel agent, but doing business with Lune made the trip to China easy without it feeling like my hand was being held. Having no experience with the language and a minimal amount of time to check out a few sights, I was able to be on my way on a 5-day tour of China on an overnight train within a few hours of flying into Beijing, no hassles, no snags. The accommodations were exactly what I was looking for, so instead of spending hours dealing with ticket booths and booking offices, I was able to enjoy what really mattered: getting the most out of an amazing journey to an amazing country. How’s that? None of it’s BS either. I especially loved the hostel in Pingyao; really charming.

You were a tremendous help securing the train tickets. Given the popularity of the Beijing-Lhasa train you were able to secure tickets for us on fairly short notice and got us the cabin we wanted. While some of the other travelers we met complained about travel agents not showing up to give travelers documents, we didn’t have to worry about any of that. The permit hassle of traveling in Tibet is testing and having a travel agent knowledgeable of the local bureaucracy is invaluable.
I’m home – safe and sound, but a little tired! Overall, the trip was great. It exceeded my expectations. I want to again thank you for your invaluable help in planning and executing my trip to China. You worked hard for me, and I greatly appreciate it! I will certainly recommend your services and travel to China in the future! I am now working on what will be a hard bound, table book about my trip.
With respect to individual parts of our trip-
Beijing- We did our cultural heavy lifting in Beijing which was appropriate since this was our first city upon arrival in China. The culture was amazing- Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Hutongs, Summer Palace, and the Great Wall. While the pace was fast and somewhat exhausting, it was worth the time up front to feel the Chinese culture quickly as we did.
Xi’An- What an amazing site- the Terra-cotta Warriors. Well worth this brief side trip to see what has been called the Eight Wonder of the World. A special treat was our personal guide by one of the original archaeologists who worked on the site from the beginning. Now retired and in his 70s, this wonderful gentleman gave us a personal tour with fascinating insights into the history of the warriors.
Lijiang- Lijiang is a magnificent mountain resort town on the edge of Tibet. We wanted to spend some time in a place within China that was not a major city. Lijiang was a perfect choice. Set in the foothills of the Himalayas the scenery in Lijiang captivating and the Banyan Tree does a great job of bringing this beauty into their hotel.
Shanghai- Oh to this New York City like city in China, with its brand new sky scrapers, Western night life, and powerful business community. What a fun and exciting town. Move over New York, Shanghai is where the action will be in the 21st century- where the East meets West and moves on.
Hong Kong- This gateway to China is truly an island state unto itself. Very Western, very cosmopolitan, very urban. The Peninsula Hotel is worth the price. Extraordinary view out from our harbor facing room with picture windows was like an unreal painting. It was hard to believe the beauty of this harbor oriented city.

We thought the trip went very well. Throughout the trip, the amount of free time was great and staying in cities for multiple nights was relaxing. This was the first group tour I came home from feeling relaxed. Nice job!
